To lessen the impact and to slow down and control the spread of the coronavirus, governments and institutions across the world have used various methods, including:
- Enforcing the wearing of facemasks
- Encouraging thorough handwashing
- Regular use of antibacterial hand gel
- Strict social distancing
- National Lockdowns
- Free PCR Testing
- National vaccine rollouts
And now, towards the end of 2021, these methods appear to have slowed down instances of COVID-19, and thankfully lowered the serious illness and death rate.
How automatic doors help
Whilst all of the above methods of controlling the spread of COVID-19 are proven to help, there are other less publicised, yet highly effective ways, in which the coronavirus and other viruses are prevented from spreading.
One of those methods is the widespread use and installation of automatic doors in commercial and public properties. But, how exactly do electric doors (automatic doors) help, and can they be installed in your commercial property?
But first… what is a virus?
Before answering the question about how automatic doors are effective in helping to control viruses, it’s important to know what viruses are and how most of them are spread.
Without getting too scientific, a virus is a microscopic parasite that needs a host, such as a human or animal body, to thrive and reproduce.
In the short period that a virus doesn’t have a host, it turns itself into what’s called a ‘virion’ – an infectious cell encased in a protective coating, until a host, such as you, turns up and gives it the opportunity to latch on and reproduce.
These virions are the things that exist (for short periods) on the surfaces we all commonly come into contact with, such as street furniture, the items we buy in shops, and in particular, door handles and door frames.
A Technological Solution
Now, with a greater understanding of how a virus infects, it’s easy to see that by avoiding touching surfaces as much as possible, we can all help prevent the spread.
And this is why the installation of automatic doors should be an essential element to any commercial new build or existing property, used for commercial or public purposes.
Modern automatic doors not only remove the need for human contact, a modern automatic door system can be fitted with access control systems, such as FlowControl or ClearWave, that count and control the number of people entering and leaving a property, therefore further limiting the chances of a virus spreading.
Can I have an automatic door installed in my property?
